The “Atacama” desert and the “Altiplano”

lagunes-de-laltiplano

The “desert of deserts” is an enormous plateau (six times the size of Belgium) located just below the Tropic of Capricorn. With less than 5 mm of rain per year it’s deemed the most arid desert in the world. Temperatures can be around 0ºC at night and rise to 30ºC during the day, in winter and in summer.
During the night this desert offers a mind-blowing show: a sky eclipsed by an infinite universe of stars and galaxies… We invite you to the village amidst an oasis, “San Pedro de Atacama”, with its valleys, salt lakes and many surrounding wonders.
To the east of the desert, towards Bolivia and Argentine, one finds the “Altiplano”, formed by high plateaus of barren land, and preserving beautiful mountain lakes and many signs of volcanic activity. In both cases you will encounter extraordinary landscapes, specially in the “Parque Nacional Lauca” and the “Parque Nacional Tres Cruces”.
